Sam Light was born and raised in New York, she currently resides in Brooklyn, NY. She is an artist and photographer who Graduated from The School of Visual Arts.

Sam is primarily a black and white photographer who shoots  digitally, as well as using analog film. She has expertise in digital printing and with both film and alternative/19th century printing processes. Her images have a darker sensibility that is felt throughout her fine art work, portraiture and video work.

Sam Light's recent work explores a female’s subconscious dialogue. That is, the balance between the strength which she, the subject pulls from within, and the emergence of self-critical vulnerability. is influenced by the interpersonal collision of the dominate and submissive persona and a reflection of that dialogue. She finds that it allows the viewer to move past the more aesthetically pleasing elements of the images and into the realm of deeper thought and contradiction. This plays on her themes of duality, dom and sub persona, light and dark, beautiful and abject.
